In layman terms a search engine gives the information stored in its memory by comparing the request asked to it.
Technically Speaking
Search Engine gives the information stored in its data base by comparing the query which the browser has asked for.
Now the real Question arises, why is it given so much importance?
In the recent statistics 81% of online transactions come through search engines.
Now I think you can infer what hype is this about. It is the best way getting the information on any subject.
The leaders in Search Engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN, DMOZ and so on.
So the prime objective of any person’s website, blog or any information is to get appeared in these sites.
Search Engines display 10 results on each page excluding paid listings.
As per the December 2006 statistics total numbers of internet users are 1,091,730,861.
As per the December 2002 statistics (Sorry I could not get the latest information.) there are 20,113,430 distinct web sites and this value is far below the actual value as it is a very difficult procedure to have the information of all the websites.
Now the question arises how a new website created will be displayed on the first page of search engine results and statistics also show most of the browsers don’t go beyond second page of the search results.
Now comes the point of Search Engine Optimization.
